Hello, I've decided to write about my struggles with my weight and my fight to delay the aging process.  Hopefully, there will be someone out there that can relate.  But, if nothing else, this will save me from paying a therapist... :)

Went to bed very early last night.  Reading Udo Erasmus book "FATS THAT HEAL, FATS THAT KILL"each time I read these technical books I learn a little more. Trying to understand the molecular structure of fatty acids puts me to sleep!  I realize that the wrong fats in our diet are the underlying cause of heart disease, cancer, arthritis, Alzheimers etc.  What is really fascinating is that we NEED the good fats to be healthy.  My problem is finding a way to get the good fats in.  I take 1 tsp of fish oil a day which gives me plenty EPA and DHA.  I use Olive oil to sautee my vegetables, cook eggs in and on my salad.  But, I struggle with limiting myself to 1.5 oz of nuts.  When I'm stressed, which I am right now, I like to eat foods that crunch.  Since I can't eat chips. I eat nuts - too many. So, this week no nuts for me!  If I behave and get my eating under control this week then I will allow myself to buy more nuts and ration them properly.

Made an
anti-oxidant breakfast coctail added 1oz pure aloe vera juice.   Ate a banana because it was there.  Went to church message on how to be EXTRA-ordinary.  Don't want to be ordinary.  Came home and made my famous Zone Sunday eggs:

Adj's Zone Sunday Eggs
Sautee 2C Fresh Baby Spinach, Green, Red and Yellow Bell Peppers
In 1/2 Tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Add in left over cooked Wild Alaskan Salmon
Add in 2 organic, free range, brown Omega 3 eggs
Dulse and Cayenne Pepper To Taste

If I wasn't on punishment I would have had a piece of high-fiber whole grain bread with sugar free jam.  But no bread or jam for me!  Had 1/2 C Kefir with 1/4C fresh blueberries and 1/4C organic, sugar free apple sauce.  Yum!

Went back to church for a leadership meeting.  Learned our code: Love Integrity Friendliness, Excellence.  Really understanding God's plan for my life.  Being planted in the right house has made all the difference in finding my purpose.  Now, if I could just find my husband...or he would just find me...

Found a pair of non-lycra or spandex work out pants to wear to my first day of training at the gym.  They look dorky but until I lose weight dorky I will look...

Went to dinner last night.  Fantastic Italian food.  So out of the Zone... But I didn't eat any bread or have dessert.

Took a CPR training class today.  I really hope I don't have to rescue anybody.  Woman in my class thought I looked 30.  She said I didn't have any wrinkles.  I guess I'll keep eating the salmon and the blueberrries...

It is raining again.  Well storming.  I get my gym membership on Monday.  I will do 1 hour of cardio EVERY day next week.  I tried on work out clothes today.  How can I be a small when I feel so fat?  There is something bazzar going on. All my workout pants are lycra and they are TIGHT!   Must find a decent pair to wear on Monday.

Woke up at 5:30AM stayed in bed until 6.  Drinking Green Tea and checking email.  Green Tea is suppose to help burn fat.  Really? 

There is this mad-scientist or genius however you choose to look at him, named  Ray Kurzweil, his book is
FANTASTIC VOYAGE: Live Long Enough to Live Forever He plans to live forever.  Anyway, he takes 130 supplements a day and drinks 10 cups of green tea. (Hmmmmm)  I plan to read his book but I remember that Bobby Riggs the chauvinist tennis player was taking 415 supplements a day and he still got his pants beat off by Billie Jean King in a battle of the sexes match in 1973.  He died of prostrate cancer in 1995.

Okay, forced myself to get up from the computer and go for a cardio-hill power walk.  Guess what?  It's raining.  Foiled again.  There was a time when I would go back to bed but now that I am in this super-healthy state I'm up for the day.

1/2C Frozen Unsweetened Blueberries
1 Scoop Pure Whey Protein Powder
1/2C Pure Cherry Juice
1/2C Kefir
1 tsp Agave
1 tsp Ground Flax Seeds/Oat Bran Mixture
1Tbsp Slivered Almonds

I'm trying to start my day in the "Zone". Dr. Barry Sears the MIT scientist who created the Zone Diet is my diet hero.  I had to read his book 3 times to understand it, but now I get it.  "You are only as healthy as your last meal"  So every meal you have to strive for the perfect balance of protein, fats and carbohydrates.  He says 30-30-40.  I'm not that good at hitting the ratio on the head but I aim for it.

I didn't have any almonds or walnuts in the house so I ate some pumpkin seeds with my shake.  I'm on punishment.  I ate more than my daily allotment of 1.5 oz of nuts per day the last few weeks that is why I gained weight.


I'm trying new foods that I read about in THE PERRICONE PRESCRIPTION and PERRICONE PROMISE  Dr. Perricone.is a dermatologist and best selling author.  As a dermatologist he studied and experimented on topical treatments to reduce the signs of aging.  He went further and researched anti-aging diets to come up with his program to help you become younger from the inside.

I did Perricone's  28-day face lift and yes it worked!  Someone actually walked up to me, looked in my face and said "You look younger!"  But, how many days a year can I really eat wild Alaskan salmon (expensive!), blueberries (expensive), Acai (very expensive), kefir (expensive) and oatmeal (time consuming to cook). We'll see.  I've never been into skin care but after reading Perricone's books I ran out and bought a face serum with DHAE, C-Ester, and ALA.  Then I got an eye cream with neuropeptides.  Now, to be perfectly honest, I don't have wrinkles.  But, I don't want them either!  So, I figure an ounce of prevention...

Time for my morning supplements.

1/8 tsp Vitamin C powder (500mg) in pure spring water
with one dropper of Echinacea
400iu Vitamin E
1 Softgel Calcium
1 Alive Multi-Vitamin Mineral  Supplement
1 B "100" (100% RDA of B vitamins)
1 Oil of Oregano 150mg

Breakfast Part Two:
1/2C Steel Cut Slow-Cooking Oatmeal
1 Tbsp Designer Whey Vanilla Protein Powder
1/4C fresh Blueberries
1/2 Banana
1Tbsp Walnut Pieces

I've never been an oatmeal lover.  But, I decided to try.  I make 8 servings at a time and divide them into storage bowls and put them in the refriderator.  Every day I just take out a bowl pour 1/8C boiling water on it and voila.

4C Distilled Water (Boil)
1C Country Choice Organic Steal Cut Oatmeal
1tsp Cinnamon & 1tsp Vanilla

The steel cut oatmeal has a nutty texture not mushy like rolled oats.  Plus it still has all the nutrients that are lost in the rolling process.  Add fresh fruit (1/2C apple, pear, berries etc), 1 Tbsp raw nuts or seeds (almond, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds etc)  1 Tbsp protein powder.  You get carbs for energy, soluable fiber to lower your cholesterol, good fat for your heart and protein to build muscle.  It also fills you up.

Off to take my mom to the doctor.  Time to kill after Doctor visit so we went to this coffee house.  Mom had coffee.  I had green tea.  I'm not allowed to have coffee - stopped drinking it four years ago, sigh.  Mom ordered an apple crepe and insisted I help her eat it. What is a dutiful daughter to do?

Took Mom home and gave her two bags nuts almonds and pecans that I'm not allowed to have because I'm handling my snacking well right now.  Ate a few just to show her they were safe to eat ;)

Came home and made lunch.

Got a call - I start a new training program at a gym.  Yippee!  Now I have no excuse.  If it rains I can go to the gym!!!

I actually live walking distance from a brand new beautiful Magic Johnson 24 Hour Fitness.  The club has 3 levels, a pool, basketball court and a view over the city.  Pretty good for the 'hood.

I'm off to put on my super tight work out clothes.  Going hit the treadmill...

Not happy with my body right now.  Eating too much and and skipping cardio.  I have resolved myself to understand that no one cares that my new size 6 skirts are too tight. I'm the only person I know that goes from skinny to fat in two weeks.  Why am I being punished?  Why did I get the fat genes?

I worked out in the park for an hour with Linda this morning.  I enjoy lifting free weights and she is such a joy-filled person it starts my day off well. 

Started off with a "Zone" snack - two hard boiled eggs with hummus in place of the yolks.  Next I had a protein shake - 2 Scoops Designer Whey, 8oz Carb Countdown Fat Free Dairy Beverage, teaspoon of Ground Flax Seeds, Oat Brand and ice.

For lunch I had left over salmon and broccoli - cold - too lazy to heat it up.  Dessert was 1/2 cup fresh blueberries in 1/2 cup low fat Kefir.  Kefir is this yogurt-like drink from Russia.  I'm addicted to it.  It has the good bacteria for your digestion and also helps the immune system.  I think it is an anti-depressant.

Oh, I conveniently forgot I ate a dark chocolate and almond bar on my way home from Whole Foods this morning.  Tomorrow I will be better...
